Followup Thoughts (but no prayers)

Well, just chalk another one up to me being an idiot. I need to apologize for sending out the wrong results of the Draft Lottery on Wednesday night. It was a combination of things that led up to it but the bottom line is I should have known better than to try a new process on a new website with the added distraction of a Zoom call.

I just didn't see that I had received an email from the second lottery and I 'pushed a few buttons' on the site thinking it had failed to generate. I compounded that error by not digging through the emails I got from the site. I received four for each lottery 'roll'... a thanks, a PayPal receipt and two copies of the results (commish and owner).

If you are among the non-playoff team owners I hope you aren't too pissed about the results. I decided that the original roll, verified by email timestamp, was what I should honor. I'll do better in the future.

Meanwhile, on to other things. First things first. Check out Johnny Unitas's dance move in the amazing Bally's Atlantic City 30 second commercial from the 80's. Bonus points for a cameo by Brooks Robinson and double bonus points for a drop in by my grandfather's favorite wrestler, Bruno Sammartino.

Draft Grid, etc

I'll put an Excel grid together as I always do but won't email it until all the keepers are determined in late August. BTW...I plan to announce things on the front page of our league site so I hope you check in often. I'll link to relevant files in the EHFL Links section of the home page.  I'm going to try to avoid bombarding everyone with email this year.

Sometime over the next few days I will enter the lottery results into the site and generate the draft report there including traded picks. (Edit--this is now done and a .pdf version is available. See the league site message) Obviously the keepers will not be included.

Traded Player(s) Keeper Value

As I mentioned here a few times previously I made a change in the 'reward' an owner receives when acquiring a player through an (in-season) trade. Instead of 'adding' two rounds to the player's keeper slot from the previous year, he now will get the same value as the previous year. Still a bonus for the owner but it adds one year as a potential keeper instead of two.

If I draft a guy in Round Six his value to me next year would be a four slot. Under the previous rule had I traded him the new owner could have kept him with an eight. Now the new owner could keep him in his sixth round slot.I believe I've stated that any player can only get one trade bonus during his career. This prevents players being swapped back and forth between two owners and the player never going back into the draft. I may need to add that to the official rule book.

This does not affect trades made prior to this change. 2020 player deals come under the old rule.

Players acquired in trades in the off season do not get a bump. They retain the draft value that they would have held with the original owner.

That's it for now (that's probably more than enough for now).

Yo, it's the Traveling Wilburys!
