Week Two Recap

Well, that's interesting...all three divisions have a 2-0 team, a 1-1 team, and an 0-2 team. What's crazy is the a couple of those are not the teams you'd expect. Take mine, for instance. If I wasn't such an idiot and had kept Fournette and Mongomery in my lineup instead of yanking them on Friday, I'd have hit 178 points. That would have been just three points off the all-time record. And I'm the guy who preaches about using your first instinct.

The other division leaders are more or less as I figured. Honestly the Kuhlmann Division can go in any direction and not surprise me.  The Barenholtz looks tough as well. The snakebit Pirates have the highest PPG of team not in first place.

The Holes rallied last night thanks to Kamara's huge night and hold down the lead over in the Hamman. The Ridgebacks have the best PPG of the 1-1 teams. And that's without anything from their #1 pick (see below).

At least there wasn't an 'oh, hell' score for a losing team. The Heroes' 107 points would have gotten Hogan a win or a tie against a few other clubs but nothing like the Pirates' 135 point Week One disappointment...

The Blizzard continue to roll along averaging 130 points a game but let's see how that stands up with McCaffrey being out for a month or more (see below, again).... if you check the 'potential points' by going to Franchise-->Weekly Results you'll see who coulda had a win with better lineup choices (Hi, Jack)... I really like the 'Starter Points By Position' bar graph on the Numbers tab. It tells you that the Bombers and Sticks have had the best run of QB points, the Flyers have the fewest points from runningbacks (cause, well, I'm and idiot), but I have the most points from receivers. A lot of that is 'flex position' dependent, but it's still interesting...

Waivers last week took me by surprise a bit. I figured that the increase in the budget would inflate prices but, damn, the price of poker jumped! I bid on three or four guys at $40 each and I got my last choice... Scoring is off by a point this week, from 109.8 in Wk 1 to 108.8. You can go to the 'full report' link at the bottom of the 'Starter Points' graph mentioned above and filter it by one week. Look at the total on the bottom right....

Players seem to be falling out at a high rate so far this year. I don't know if it is a result of the condensed training camp and no preseaon games or not. But whatever the cause, there is an effect throughout fantasy football. A few years ago we adopted the Delvin Cook Rule which was designed to compensate owners for the loss of a high draft pick/keeper who loses most of a season to injury. Here's how the rule reads:

“Dalvin Cook Rule”: A player will be granted an additional year as a ‘keeper’ in the following circumstances:

  • He is a first or second round draftee or keeper and
  • The current or prior season is his first with your team and
  • He is IR’d by his NFL team and
  • He was active for five or fewer games during the Hughes League regular season.

A player qualifying under the above rule will be given the same Draft Value he had for the year he is injured. A qualifying player who is traded either before or after his injury will not be granted the standard two-round ‘bump’ afforded traded players.

Right now we have four players who may end up qualifying: Saquon Barkley/Holes, Michael Thomas/R'backs, Christian McCaffrey/Blizzard, and Le'Veon Bell/Bombers. Barkley will fall under the rule for sure as his season is over. It's just a matter of time before he is IR'd. The others are scheduled to return in a few(?) weeks but as of now they are all Top Two Round picks with injuries. Bell is NFL IR'd which is one of the requirements. McCaffrey and Thomas, as of this writing, are not. Of note is the fact that McCaffrey, Barkley and Thomas were the top three picks in our draft. Wow.

It ain't the End of Days, but you can see it from here.

Catching up on stuff....

-Remember that players are eligible for our IR only if they are listed by the NFL as 'Out' or 'IR'. If you have them on your IR list and they are not qualified any longer you will not be able to turn in a lineup until you adjust their staus on your team.

-Check the email I sent on Sunday for some alternate ways to view scores and manage your team.

-I have a request in to MFL to fix a few issues with the site. Using the current 'skin' (pre-packaged color scheme) renders a few headings in various reports unreadable. Like the team abbreviations on the left side of the NFL Depth Chart Grid and a few others. They fixed the same issue last year with the blue and silver skin i was using. Hopefully, they will fix this one as well. Of course, there's the cahnce that I fucked something up. Yup, there's always that chance.
